We got land from the city and started off the students with a construction business.
Even more than Hawassa, it is our belief Bekoji will demonstrate what Yessera stands for and yearns to accomplish in Ethiopia. The reason is simple: our vision was immediately understood and embraced by pivotal, community minded Bekoji people. The students they helped recruit, the way these performed in Addis, the student’s enthusiasm and long range thinking, and determination to learn from mistakes—all give us hope we will have champions who will take on greater and greater challenges in collaboration with their ready community. Yessera, having raised the needed funds, has helped them start their consruction business soon after their October ’09 graduation. Proof that our Bekoji graduates are ahead of the game is that they already have plans in place to return Yessera’s contribution, so it will revolve and help with the start up business of our upcoming trainees.
